A) Izumo Course: The land of Gods and Myths
Shimane Prefecture, where the conference venue is located, has been known since ancient times as the Land of Gods and Myths. In this course you will visit Izumo Taisha, a grand shrine renowned for its deity of matchmaking. According to legend, all the gods in Japan gather here once a year. After visiting the shrine, you’ll have the opportunity to delve into the region’s ancient history at the nearby Shimane Museum of Ancient Izumo.

B) Yasugi Course: Unique Museums
This course features two unique museums situated near our conference venue: the Adachi Museum of Art and the Wakou Museum. The Adachi Museum of Art has a vast collection of modern Japanese paintings by artists such as Yokoyama Taikan. It also has expansive garden which was ranked the first in “2023 Japanese Garden Ranking.” With this beautiful garden, the Adachi Museum has been selected the number one spot to visit for 21 consecutive years. Another unique museum in the area is the Wakou Museum. It is the only museum in Japan dedicated to “tatara,” a traditional method of iron manufacturing used in the creation of Japanese swords. Equipment for “tatara” iron-manufacturing, and various tools and swords created by this method offer a fascinating glimpse into this ancient craft.

C) Sakaiminato Course: Seafood lunch and Yokai
Sakaiminato is one of the best fishing ports in Japan. Shigeru Mizuki, a renowned Japanese manga artist, is famous for his stories featuring Yokai, such as in “Ge Ge Ge no Kitaro.” This course takes you to Mizuki Shigeru Road and the Mizuki Shigeru Museum, where you can immerse yourself in the enchanting world of Yokai. Along the way, the tour bus will pass “Betabumi-zaka,” which literally means a slope so steep you need to press the gas pedal to the floor. You will enjoy “Kaisen-don” (a seafood rice bowl) for lunch. The tour also includes a visit to the Wakou Museum, providing another opportunity to learn about “tatara,” the traditional method of iron manufacturing.
